The existential self

What does Kierkegaard, writing under the pseudonym Anti-Climacus, mean by describing the self as a relation that relates to itself? Why does Heidegger insist on using the term Dasein rather than writing about subjectivity? What does Sartre’s claim that “existence precedes essence” mean for a theory of the self? This video investigates existentialist themes in these three thinkers’ approaches to the self and identity.
